R O U L E T T E - the 40-number version.
========================================
The game
--------
It is a version of the original roulette game of 36 numbers, expanded to
40 numbers, with 4 columns and 4 groups of tens (called dizaines). This
game is designed for balanced betting and more payoffs, because of the
increase of the numbers. [I first thought of the idea (of increasing this
game to 40 numbers) in May, 1989, as part of submitting ideas to a company
desiring of ideas for metal producing.]
The game can be operated with the mouse, and with the keyboard, whenever
the mouse isn't available. It is made user friendly as much as possible
with documentation and menu-accessible, and includes a guided tour which
the user can familiarize himself with the play.
NOTE: The player may read the quickst.txt file for instructions on quick
starting of the game.
The play
--------
The player plays this game by placing chip(s) on the box (where the number
is on the center) or alongside the designated spots by the box, in order to
bet per the options, outlined elsewhere in this manual. There is a spinner
which determines the winning number and bets are thus settled with paying
on the payoffs for the bet. The selection of the winning number by spinner
is by pure random seed for this program.
There are 180 options for betting - see the odds.txt for the full listing
of those options. There are different types of bets - single or solo, the
betting of numbers only; special bets - first dizaine (1 to 10), second
dizaine (11 to 20), third dizaine (21 to 30), fourth dizaine (31 to 40) -
green and yellow - odd and even - passe (1 to 20) and marque (21 to 40) -
first, second, third, and fourth columns; pairs (any two adjoining numbers)
- en carre (any four adjoining numbers) - quatres (four numbers on a line)
- trois (three adjoining numbers) - huit (eight numbers in the manner of
2 quatres).
Since the above makes 176 options I have added four to those, and they are:
1st and 2nd columns; 2nd and 3rd columns; 3rd and 4th columns; and 0 or 00.
These four make it with 180 options of betting all together.
When the play starts the use of the mouse is firsthand. You have the option
of switching to the use of the keyboard to enter bet numbers and the amount
of chips. [However, once you switch to the keys, you cannot go back to the
use of the mouse - you have to exit the program and re-start.] The "Charts"
on the menu provide the locations of the corresponding bet numbers for each
type of options. If you want to bet on single numbers, place the mouse on
the centermost area of the number you want to bet, and click with the left
button, only once! A small box will appear asking for chips, and if you
want more than one chip, then enter by keys the amount of chips desired. If
you reply by pressing "N" (or "n") one chip will be the amount of chips you
are betting for the bet. Per the charts showing the appropriate locations
of special types of bets, you can place the mouse pointer on certain areas
on the layout or the small layout on the right. That is, if your target is
a pair of 1 and 2, click the pointer on the line dividing the 1 and 2 boxes,
preferably along the midpoint of this line, and a chip will appear to place
this bet, and the chips box will appear asking for the amount of chips you
want to bet. [There is a guided tour on the menu if you want to be guided
in how to play the game.] You then enter the desired amount of chips.
Here are the types of bet to make:
Single (or solo) - 1 to 40, 0, 00. A chip or chips is to be placed on
the centermost of the box, so that the chip(s) must
not touch the enclosing lines of the number. Payoff
odds for the winning number is 39 to 1.
Pair - any single number coupled with another number in an adjoining
(side by side) box (that is, the number 7 with either 3, 6, 8
or 11, and the single 23 with either 19, 22, 24 or 27). Place
chips on line separating those two numbers. Payoff odds for
pairs if either wins: 19 to 1.
Quatres - any horizontal line of 4 numbers on the layout (that is, 5,
6, 7, and 8). Chips are placed around the midpoint of the
line to the left of the box enclosing the first number of the
quatres group of your betting choice. 9 to 1 is the payoff
odds for quatres if any of those 4 wins.
En Carre - any 4 numbers in a square, quarter, corner or 4-number in
which the chips are placed on the intersection of lines
between any 4 numbers (that is, if you choose the 4 numbers
in a "square" - 2, 3, 6 and 7 - the intersection point is
to the lower right corner of the "2" box and the upper left
corner of the "7" box. The payoff odds if any one of those
4 numbers is the winning number is 9 to 1.
Dizaines - (French for groups of 10 units) Groups of 1 - 10, 11 - 20,
21 - 30, or 31 - 40. Chips are placed inside the box, and
pays 3 to 1 for the winning number.
Even boxes - any of the following: Green, Yellow, Odd, Even, 1 - 20, or
21 -40. Place the chips inside the box and payoff is even
money if the number wins.
Columns - At the bottom of the layout, spaces marked 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and
4th are for betting the 10 numbers above each space; chips on
the centermost of box. Payoff odds are 3 to 1 for the number
that wins.
Between columns - (special) Placing chips on the line dividing the
columns (that is, 1st and 2nd columns) pays even money
if the number above those 2 columns wins.
Trio - (special) There are only two trio groups to bet and they are: 0,
1, and 2; and 00, 3, and 4. Payoff is 13 to 1 if any of those
numbers win. Placement of chip is the intersection point of those
three numbers.
Huits - (special) Any two adjoining groups of quatres on which chips are
placed on the rightmost point of intersection of the last numbers
of each quatres group (that is, if you want to bet on 1 - 8, then
place the chips on the lower right corner of the "4" box). Payoff
odds are 4 to 1 for those 8 numbers if one of those wins.
0, 00 - (special) Placing chips on the right line of the 4th column is for
when either 0 or 00 wins and payoff odds are 39 to 1 for it.
(This is different with pairs of 0 and 00 when chips are placed
on the line separating those two numbers to designate pairs.)
For the small layout, you can click the mouse anywhere in the box for each
of the special bets (#41 thru #50) - the same box asking for the amount of
chips will appear.
Located at the right of the screen, there is a box for the amount of chips
remaining for you. You have the courtesy of 100 chips to start the game
with. However, due to the configuration limitations, up to 9999 chips may
be shown in this box. Likewise, up to 99999 chips may be entered to "buy"
chips, whenever you run low on chips. If you have more than 9999 chips then
a chip will appear just below this box and the number shows the count of
each 10,000 chips, and the box shows the remainder.
When you are finished with the bets - ending the betting session - you can
put the mouse into the "spin" box and click to start the spinner, and it is
this which determines the winning number for your bets.
Exiting the game
----------------
After the play ends with the spin, you may exit the game when the "Play
again?" box appears and you respond with "N" or "n" and then another box
appears to exit the game. Or you can access the menu (only when you are
out of the play) and hi-lite with "e" and exit.
Playing the game with keys
--------------------------
You may feel more comfortable with the keys, especially if you are an
experienced data entry operator, or with a similar profession. Click the
right button with the mouse or go to the menu for "Keys" and you are on
keys mode. A prompt will appear at the lower right of the screen and it
is "bet:" - you then enter the number of bet [you will need to look up at
the charts on the menu or read the odds.txt] you wish to make. Then the
"chips:" prompt appears, and you enter the desired amount of chips, even
if it is only 1.
NOTE: Upon entering keys mode for the first time, pressing 's' at the
'bet:' prompt will result in free mode, that is, you are free to press
'm' for the menu, 'ESC' to exit the game, 'c' to buy more chips, and 's'
to start the spinner. This is a one-time only, and pressing 's' there-
after will start the spinner. This is especially constructed as so the
player may go to the menu and go for the guided tour or any other item
on the menu. Also observe that the 'bet:' prompt is readily available
to start the betting session at once, when on keys mode.
On keys mode, press 's' to commence the spinning when you have ended
your betting session. When you are out of play, you can press 'm' for
the menu, 'c' for buying more chips, and 'b' to start a betting session,
and press 'b' again to make another bet.
On creating the game
--------------------
I have my trusty compiler in Borland's Turbo C++ 3.0's environment to
produce much of the graphics with the Borland Graphics Interface (BGI)
in the game design, with the background of the clear night sky. I also
utilize with the QuickBasic 4.5's Bsave and Bload works for the layouts,
and much of the writing of the game.
Credit goes to Creative Computing for the structure of the game of
Roulette, but this is in the original writing (the game with 56 options
of betting) and the current one is done by my writing. Credit also goes
to Microsoft for its products such as books in Basic. I will also give
partial credit to programmers for their ideas and techniques for parts
necessary to make the game work.
